This submerged structure is made from concrete cones, rubble, and steel and is strewn with repurposed items like sunken barges, tanks and other retired military vehicles to attract marine life to the ocean bottom. These materials are stable, long lasting, and environmentally safe. The Jim Caudle Artificial Reef covers several acres in 30 feet of water, and is growing thanks to local efforts.

Like their naturally occurring counterparts, artificial reefs create a thriving inshore habitat for many species of fish.
